She began her career as a television actress, being featured in the TV films Malibu (1983) as well as California Girls (1985). She was also in comedies The Perils of Gwendoline and Bachelor Party (both 1984) along with the horror film Witchboard (1986). Kitaen garnered widespread recognition for her roles in several heavy metal music videos. These included Ratt's "Back for More" (1984) and Whitesnake's "Still of the Night", "Is This Love" and "Here I Go Again" (all 1987).In the decade of 2000, Kitaen transitioned into appearing on reality TV series, including The Surreal Life (2006) and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) which, the latter of which explored Kitaen's problems with substance abuse. Julie Kitaen was born in San Diego, California, in 1961. Kitaen is the eldest of three kids to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor) who was a homewife, one-time beauty contest participant and Terry Kitaen. Kitaen works in a neon sign business. Kitaen was the daughter of a Russian-Jewish dad and an Scottish mother. Kitaen was raised Jewish. Kitaen started using the title "Tawny", at 12 years old, on her own initiative. She was dyslexic as a young child. This made her leave Mission Bay High School. 7 years old, she was at the age of 14, having backstage access after an Peter Frampton concert at Balboa Stadium,[8] she experienced the high-end treatment that Frampton's partner Penny and aspired to achieve it for herself.
