Hanks' next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. The film was widely lauded by critics, as were the performances of the entire ensemble (which comprised Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) and Kathleen Quinlan. The film also garnered nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. In the following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. His directorial debut came a year later, with the film The Thing You Do! The story of the fall and rise of a 1960s-era rock band. Hanks also takes on the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most reviewers agree that Hanks' performances earned him a place among the top romantic-comedy stars his time.
